Metallography
Our well-equipped Metallography department with
- The latest reflected light and transmitted light microscopy and digital image processing
- Scanning electron microscope and
- Electron beam micro-analysis (EDX) and
- Fully automatic microsection production
permits the efficient microstructural examination of trial, testing and returned parts. It provides an indispensable input for the optimisation of components and production methods and for the damage analysis of components.
Furthermore, the materials laboratory carries out material and cleanliness analyses and investigates the corrosion behaviour of materials and components in standardised tests (e.g. salt mist test, IK test, stress cracking corrosion test, etc.). With special component tests developed by Witzenmann in cooperation with universities and external partners, complex corrosion processes such as the interaction of moisture and high-temperature corrosion on components subject to thermal cycles can be simulated under near-operational conditions. It is thus possible to select the optimum material for extreme applications too from the point of view of both material and costs.
